IC INFORMATION
Character Name: Aerich
AU or OU: OU
Canon: Dragaera
Canon Point: His death
Character Age: 1000 (equivalent to 30s).
OU Backstory: https://dragaera.fandom.com/wiki/Aerich
Powers and Abilities:While Aerich indicates he has a little knowledge of sorcery, we never see him use it on page. Therefore, I play him as lacking supernatural powers.
He is a highly competent fighter, and has what his culture considers appropriate education for landed nobility, which covers a lot of both general topics (history, science, the arts, rhetoric and literature), and things like administration and politics. He knows how to care for horses as well as ride.
Aerich is known for speaking an absurd number of languages; in the TDM, I do try to keep his dialog a lot simpler than it is in canon, because he wasn’t able to pick up as much in the labor camp, but he will slowly regain his normal speaking style. His hobbies also include crochet (he does fine lace) and wine-making.
Desired Faction: I can argue for either the Vault or Elysium, without a strong preference. I think Elysium is more interesting OOCly, but the Vault might be a better fit ICly.
The Vault is probably the safer option for someone like Aerich. While he is no scholar, he is exactly the sort of person who could either organize and record what knowledge is brought in or discovered, or handle logistics and trade. (Basically the equivalent of support staff in a science lab.). Him being a stoic and honorbound individual won’t get in the way of this job, and he is adept at dealing with people with other priorities than he has. He’d find the tasks easy enough, if not exactly exciting.
Elysium is the one with more potential conflict, because it plays to both of Aerich’s strengths and weaknesses. Aerich carries a sense of personal integrity and self-control that mark him as useful, and he once spent 50 years planning on how to take down the man who tarnished his family’s reputation in such a way that the man was not only dead, but revealed as a traitor. That included interacting with the man at court without him recognizing who Aerich was. At this point, good manners are reflexive to him, and he doesn’t have a moral objection to sacrificing his life for an ideal and can keep secrets.
The problem is that Aerich is the sort of person who will need a lot of practice to not come off as judging someone, and he has a lot of ideas from home on how nobles should act. (Hint: far more noblesse oblige.) He also has a strict code of personal honor, though he has been known to find loopholes or direct information to friends who can act. On the other hand, he also has the seeds of ‘other people have different codes, and I accept that’ — one of his best friends is known for political scheming and duplicity to the point where we never learn the character’s actual name. For that matter, 'Aerich' is an alias, though one he will adopt as more comfortable for any such work than being Temma, Duke Arylle. (In canon, it is the name he uses in Book 1 and his friends continue to use it for him throughout his life.)
